Celebrating Broken Resolutions

So far this year I haven’t blogged, kept to any kind of diet (other than a chocolate biscuit based one) or to my extremely mild promise to myself to cut back on the red wine… I knew it was futile making those resolutions so why do it?

Whoop whoop, its blue monday, time to pack all those unrealistic ideas in a bag and leave them in the cupboard-under-the-stairs next to the Christmas decorations and I’ll probably get them out again next year.

Beastie Burgers

PR’ing Beastie Burgers - which has been extremely entertaining - PR’s not something I’ve ever done before so I’ve been doing my best with the help of Google and a big dollop of guess-work. It’s been pretty successful but Tim has set down the challenge of getting us in the local paper – photos and all – so I need to think that one over a little more.

Getting ready for Stanley’s 3rd birthday party by making piles of sugary treats and paper crowns. Hoping I don’t go into meltdown before hand. I’m slightly amazed by he fact I’ve been a parent for nearly 3 yeas now. The party should be awesome – well it should be – we’re filling a large number of 3 year olds with sugar and then going to make them play party games to loud music. How can that not be fun?

Freaking out about Christmas. The Mother-in-law is coming to country, renting out a house in deepest darkest Cumbria and hosting the whole family. We’ve all had to take on a little responsibility and I stuck my arm up for sorting out stockings. I love them. And to make things a bit harder on myself I’ve decided I’m going to actually make the stockings as well as stuff them full of tat … well V1 is a knitted number I finished last night, it’s very lumpy with a freakishly pointy toe so may have to rethink, also Tim commented it looked like a Freddy jumper as I was knitting it – not sure if this a good or bad thing – no doubt I shall be keeping you up to date!

Too connected?

Is it possible to be too connected? I’ve been feeling a bit too connected at the moment.

I’m addicted to Twitter, I have a heavily used Facebook account, a pretty up to date LinkedIn profile, a well used Ravelry account and I’m member of the yorkshire-centric creative digital network Whippet On the Wire. I probably have lapsed accounts on countless other networks. I have accounts with Skype and Messenger and I now have a mobile I can take Skype calls on. I have about 3 well used and maybe 4 or 5 lapsed email addresses. I blog at work about work and now I’ve set up this blog to blog about my more creative work and family life.

Some friends have recently disconnected themselves from Facebook and said it was extremely liberating. And it sounds really tempting. How bad would it be if I just ended that account? My life is really full right now. Having 2 small children and our own business is enough stress already. We have almost no support network as both sets of grandparents live abroad and most of our friends are busy having families for themselves now.

Which got me thinking. Why have I set this blog up? Why spend so much time navel gazing publically? Why not just end my Facebook account? Why continue to sit on the sofa in the evenings in my only real down time dividing my already stretched attention between the TV and the laptop… but… I don’t think I can do it. Switching my Facebook account off feels a bit like standing on the edge of a cliff staring in to the abyss. Each method I have of connecting with you other humans seems justifiable to me. I need to keep posting on Facebook as it’s a really good tool to keep distant family and friends (which we have a lot of) up to date. Also Team Cooper is doing a roaring trade in social networking apps so it would be foolish to close the account even if I only ever used it for testing. And I decided I need this blog to display my creative work and vent a little in a way I can’t on the Team Cooper blog. Maybe I should turn the TV off … shudder …

No. I just need to suck it up, I can handle a toddler, a baby, our demonic cat, my husband (his attitude problem with my not blogging for Team Cooper at all times), our own business, approx 3 on going unfinished knitting projects, 1 sewing project and a general media/internet addiction – no problems.

“I can do anything. Anything, anything. Anything. Ha ha haaaa!” Well that is apart from the housework.

… I got my very own blog.

Currently I’m messing about the theme but when I’m done I’m going to use this blog as a way to promote my work at Team Cooper where I’ve been blogging a while now but thought I’d set up something separate to get a bit more personal. Et Voi-la. I can talk about the joys of being a mummy and sharing with the world (whether you like it or not) what ever craft project I’m destroying/creating at the moment. This may well come to nothing but I have high hopes… as I always do.
